It’s easy for us at Founded to be put onto really great boutiques, especially in the Los Angeles area. For out-of-towners, finding the right boutique can be challenging in a city that’s so spread out.
La Brea Avenue has been a destination for people looking for menswear and goods with neighboring brands: Self Edge, American Rag Cie, Aether, and now the recent, Best Made Co.
While this area is thriving now within the industry, for General Quarters owner, Blair Lucio, it hasn’t always been that way. Back in 2010 when General Quarters originally opened, that street hadn’t seen the same traffic as it does today.
“I can remember seeing people go into a neighboring shop, and I would come out with a broom and act like I was sweeping the sidewalk to invite them in”
General Quarters originally started as a boutique and to pass the time with the downed foot-traffic, Blair created small accessories and leather goods. Pieces ranging from belts and wallets to vintage rings.
Blair has since then expanded the store’s offering and growing the curation by utilizing brands such as: Rogue Territory, Filson, Red Wing Heritage, TOPO Designs, Stanley, National Athletic Goods, and many others. Since day one though, General Quarters has produced their own private label collection of shirting, trousers, jackets and tees.
We liked the overall vibe of the store – It felt warm and homely and Blair providing more of that feeling with his excellent customer service and knowledge of the product. The store will be transforming over the next month or so and we will be sure to stop back in to grab updated photos.
If you find yourself in the area, We suggest you stop in.
